What Makes Finnish Soapstone Unique
Tulikivi soapstone is as naturally occurring quarried material, consisting of a unique combination of minerals (magnetite, calcite and talc) that makes it a reliable building material and provides a warm, silky, luxurious feel when heated. The magnetite and calcite provide strength and structure, while the talc slows the transfer of heat from the inside of the stove to the outside surface area. Although soapstone is found in many places around the world, soapstone from Finland has a higher density with a greater strength and longevity that can be used as both the inner fire box, and the outer heating layer of the Tulikivi units.
Soapstone can be lathed, cut or polished in order to add those finishing touches. It's surface can be shaped, routed, cut, sandblasted or milled either by machine or with hand tools. This versatile custom finishing feature of soapstone offers an unlimited variety of creative options for personalizing your Tulikivi. You can find a wide range of soapstone products ranging from fireplaces to sinks, countertops, and tiles. The colors will look slightly different depending on the finish of the stone, whether it is used in boulder format, polished or matte finished.
